Package evolution

Our unique hosting offer has been revived to take account of new technologies and our team of 8 programmers who are working on the technical development of our hosting platform.

So here is the list of new features valid in conjunction with your Infomaniak hosting from this morning:
- The disk space for your internet site increases to 50 gigabytes.
- From now on there is no limit to your internet site traffic
- The number of databases is unlimited
- The number of ftp accounts is unlimited
- Typo3 and Python are fully supported

New technical feature:

A back-up of your databases is available in the directory /backups_mysql in the base for your hosting. You will find the back-ups for the last seven days.
From now on you will be able to choose your version of MySQL (4 or 5) from your admin console. To be able to change from one version to the other you must first completely delete your existing bases. You will then be offered a choice of version and this operation will also allow your databases for your web site to be separated physically, which will result in an optimisation of performance for your web site. The MySQL server address will change as well since you will now need to use mysql.(sDomain) instead of localhost.
Two significant changes have been made to our antispam engine in the last week. First of all the Bayesian filter system will in future conduct an initial analysis to determine the language of the message being filtered in order to then apply the proper algorithm for this language (French, English, German, Spanish or Portuguese). And our system of blacklists will profit from a new list termed CBL which is extremely effective.

From the 1st December:

- The fixed SSL-IP option will now only cost 10.- CHF (6.- euros) annually instead of the current 150.- CHF.

On Thursday, 31 August 2006 we activated a new procedure to combat spam for all your email services. This new method allows us to eliminate all the mass sources of email which are not real mail servers. It is 100% technically reliable. (The method is called "greylisting", complementing blacklisting and whitelisting).

Errors in classification aren’t possible since it isn’t the contents of each message that are analysed but the way it has been sent (from a real mail server or from a typical workstation). And it is only mail servers which can send email to you; the rest is spam sent automatically by spambots which have infected work stations.

So now we are able to reject almost 96% of the spam automatically, which our machines receive and which mostly comes from PCs infected with viruses (spambots). And our second Bayesian filter will detect another nearly 90% of the remaining messages.

The changeover is glaringly obvious and we are convinced you’ll appreciate the new peace and quiet you’ll have!

Along with the summer June brings plenty of news!

First of all, the 5 GB back-up service dedicated to your external data is now available. This new service can be found in your admin console in the "FTP" menu under "Back-up service".

You’ll find a simple and efficient program with a user guide to help you implement automatic daily back-ups for your most sensitive data.

Secondly the last Webmail version has just been made available and it includes two particularly interesting, new features:

- a search function which allows you to find a message using different criteria
- a button for labelling messages as "Spam"; they will then be analysed by our tools in order to update the filters if necessary.

And finally, sub-domains are no longer redirected to the corresponding sub-directory. For instance if you’ve made a sub-domain, test.[sDomaine], the navigation bar would show http://www.[sDomaine]/test; this has now been changed! The address will stay in the display as http://test.[sDomaine], however the old address will remain valid if you’ve already sent direct links.

We would also like to take this opportunity to inform you that we will be able to provide direct reservation of domain names (similarly to registrars) and at far better rates than those offered today.
However we regret that .ch domains will not be assigned due to the monopoly of Switch AG which manages them. To give you a taste of things to come, domains in .com, .net, .org and .info will be offered for 7.50 € (we will also be able to offer practically all other extensions).
